What was once a war-torn country has evolved into a unique tourist hotspot that’s bursting with life and culture. 1. Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels

If you’re okay with small spaces and you’re interested in learning more about Vietnam’s history, then a trip to the Cu Chi tunnels is perfect for you. First built in the 1940’s, the immense network of tunnels span from the outskirts of Saigon all the way to the Cambodian border, which is an impressive 250 km altogether. The tunnels were a war tactic that allowed the poorer Vietnamese army to escape the highly advanced chemical weapons and helicopters that their enemies had in their arsenal.

2. Go a boat trip down Halong Bay

For tourists hoping for a more relaxing Vietnamese escape, hit the waters and take a leisurely boat ride down Halong Bay. It’s no wonder that Halong Bay is Vietnam’s most popular tourist destination as the views are truly breathtaking. This war museum tells the other side of the story and gives voice to victims of US military action, including those affected by the My Lai Massacre.

4. Explore Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

This national park is truly a sight to behold. Simply walking among the trees and wildlife is enough to let your troubles melt away. It’s perfect for tourists hoping for a more active holiday as there are many hiking and biking trails that you can follow through the park, each with different landscapes and scenery to admire as you go. The park’s caves are always popular among tourists and it’s exciting to explore the regions many cavernous areas, especially those tucked away from the regular trail.
